It's been something of a tumultuous time for Preoccupations; a name-change, break-ups and big moves all contributing to the aptly-titled 'Anxiety'. The former-Viet Cong members were creatively in a low ebb when they came to write their forthcoming record, due 16 September via Jagjaguwar, but have pulled through with inspiring and powerful results. Recalling the dark industry of Joy Division, this latest work drives along with a feverish and haunting unease, until the four join together in a spine-tingling clamour that will undoubtedly translate miraculously in the live form as they hit the road this summer. Difficult it may have been, but Preoccupations have found their feet and there's no looking back. -G.O'B
